  Activity/Product Description

Product 2 research activities will provide insights on performance of different delivery and support systems (such as traditional services, private sector based approach) to i) effectively support adoption of improved aquaculture technology package develop under FISH (clsuter1 and 2) and ii) target specific groups (i.e. women, youth, other marginalised groups). . We will use the scaling of GIFT technology in different countries as a model for a comparative analysis of dissemination of GIFT technology in different context. The research activities will be framed around a methodology to assess barriers to adoption. It will allow a comparative analysis between different case studies, where the introduction of GIFT is at different stage. In addition, this cluster of research will use behavioural science to better understand underlying drivers of adoption. This research will assess the role of access to different source of knowledge and risk perception within the adoption process. A second component of research will focus on technology design using a reflexive design approach and applied to the Nutritious Pond Technology in Vietnam as well as the nutrition sensitive aquaculture system in Cambodia. This research will provide a i) analytical framework to assess an understand innovation system in aquaculture sector; ii) insight on barriers and opportunities to scaling aquaculture technologies and their enable adoption by specific target groups (women and youth); iii) analysis of the reflexive design process. This research will contribute to local adoption of improved aquaculture technology to increased productivity and incomes target population. The research will focus in Malawi, Bangladesh, Zambia for improved strain of tilapia and carp (Bangladesh) and Vietnam and Zambia for the nutrition pond technology. Note that the geographical scope will also depends on the integration of this research within bilateral projects.
