Activity/Product Description
The main objective of this activity is to promote complementarity of different farm activities to improve nutrient cycles. We used an approach based on participatory on-farm trials and modelling. On farm trials are based on integrating composting and stall testing trials. The manure produced by the cows during the stabling would be used to produce the compost. It would be applied in sorghum or millet agronomic trials to assess the effect of compost compared to inorganic fertilizer in crop grain and biomass yields. Further, focus groups and participatory modeling will be used to investigate biomass fluxes at landscape level. This will enable a better understanding of the relations among the different actors in terms of biomass uses.
