  Activity/Product Description

The need for drought tolerant varieties that are amenable to climate smart agriculture (CSA) practices in East and Southern Africais inevitable. This is so due t the prevalent drought and or intermittent rains in the region. Consequently the objective of this activity is to develop groundnut varieties that are drought tolerant and at the same time with market competitiveness traits including nutrition related components. The activities will include making crosses to develop of new populations, advancements of populations in the pipeline and evaluation of advanced breeding lines to select superior candidate lines for further characterization with farmers in preparation for release.
