Innovation TitleFish powder for new livelihood opportunities for women in Timor-Leste
Innovation description The fish based powder is made of fish, moringa leaves, dried shrimp, roasted sesame seeds, onion powder, salt, pepper, sugar, oil and cooked chili. The idea to make fish-based powder came from the women themselves. WorldFish has been doing research with the community for many years . Having previously received training on making fish-based powder, the women decided to build on these existing skills. Doing so enables them to improve their livelihoods.

Stage DescriptionWomen groups in different villages in Timor-Leste are making recipes with the nutritious powder and have started selling the products to different markets. Talking with the Ministry of Health about getting the fish powder into feeding programs at primary schools and in hospitals were initiated.
