Innovation description | Following a feed ingredient scoping in Bukavu and Kinshasa, cost-effective tiapia feed was formulated using locally available ingredients. Locally produced fish feed has the potential to reduce fish feed imports and add value to highly available local ingredients with important value for tilapia farmers in the Democratic Republic of Congo. |

Stage Description | The ingredient scoping has been completed and two feed formulations provided to partners (International Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Youth Agripreneurs of Bukavu) in 2018. In 2019-2020, the feed formulations were tested and the fishmeal-free diet has been proved to be as good as the commercial diet. |
