Innovation Title | Social, political, environmental and technical adjustments for viability of rice-fish systems in Myanmar |
Innovation description | Integrating agriculture–rice fish, in areas where rice mono-cropping was the only form of agriculture allowed, improves production and sustains livelihoods. Trials demonstrate productivity gains - 13% conversion of rice land to fish refuge sustains/enhances rice production, reduces inputs, increases fish biodiversity, and doubles income per land area through sale of fish. Test plots and early outcomes enabling research progression to compare land use scenarios and deeper challenges of the innovation at scale. |

Stage reached
Stage of Innovation | Stage 2: successful piloting |
Year (Stage) | 2019 |
Stage Description | Experimental and demonstrations site trials conducted, research data compiled and published. Demonstration plots contributed to removal of policy and land-use barriers i.e., creating an enabling agricultural environment for rice fish innovations to scale with the Ayeyarwawdy Delta (nation-wide scaling not yet possible). |
